Conferences Wow!

What a healing God we serve! John and I attended 3 different conferences over the first two weeks we were in the US. Let me tell you about some God-incidents at one of them.

GOD HEALS BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS
During the Sunday morning eucharist at the New Wineskins Conference, God convicted me (Susan) that I had been carrying a resentment towards a missionary couple over something that had happened more than 10 years ago when we were in Honduras. We were preparing to receive communion, when I got hit by God with a "holy 2 x 4" and just crumpled down knowing that I needed to ask forgiveness of the couple before I could even go forward. The verse from Matthew 5:24 came to my mind ("leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.") As it so happened, (and God planned) out of the almost 1000 people who were at the service, they were sitting right behind us. I turned to Bonnie and hugged her, breaking down in tears, asking her for forgiveness. We both stood there hugging and crying and asking and giving each other forgiveness with our rather bewildered husbands standing by. God healed our relationship right then and we were able to go to communion.
--Praise God that he makes it possible to mend broken relationships.
--Pray that God may reveal any relationships that need to be mended in your lives.

GOD RENEWS OLD FRIENDSHIPS
While we were in the exhibit hall, I noticed a table for Jericho Ministries, started by Betsy Hake who had been a SAMS missionary nurse in the little fishing village when we first went to Honduras. After so many years of not being in touch, it was a blessing to see Betsy again. She was a lifeline to me when we first went to the mission field 25 years ago. (yes, we're celebrating our 25th year of being missionaries!) We had not had any cross cultural training when we went as John already knew Spanish. There I was in San Marcos, the middle of nowhere, not able to speak Spanish, not really able to relate to the women of the village as we had almost nothing in common other than the fact that we were all women, John was busy with all the church activities, and I felt so isolated. Betsy spoke English to me and helped me get to know the women of the village and generally encouraged me. What a blessing she was!
--Praise God for friendships and the blessing of renewing them.
--Pray for Betsy and Jericho Ministries as she rescues women from prostitution on the streets of Honduras.

GOD PROTECTS US, EVEN WHEN WE DON'T KNOW IT
We've been so grateful to drive my father's 1998 Chevy since we arrived in the US. Not having a car makes it almost impossible to visit churches. We went first from Pittsburgh to North Carolina and back again and then to another conference in Washington DC. The other day we went out to start the car, but it had been raining so it wouldn't turn over. I called the garage and took it in the next day. It turns out the spark plug cables were completely worn out as well as the plugs needed to be replaced. But the worst thing was that the tires were in such bad shape on the inside edges where you couldn't really see them. The mechanic said they could have blown out at any minute as one had the equivalent of an aneurysm and the wires were breaking through. Our son Robert drove John to Cleveland on Saturday to fly to Tokyo for the Evangelism conference. It could have blown with them in it. It cost $450 to get all the work done, but praise God, they were safe (or as safe as driving expressways can be!)
--Praise God that the car didn't start so that the tires were noticed in time.
--Pray for safe travel for John as we are apart.
--Pray for the 100th anniversary of the Edinburgh Missionary Conference and the people who will be attending from all over the world.

Blessings,
Susan (for both of us)
